Energy Reources, Fuel and Explosives Engineering (B. Eng.) (‘Grado en Ingeniería de los Recursos Energéticos, Combustibles y Explosivos’ - GIRECE) aims to bring together the best knowledge available on the subject area at the UPM, offering training of the highest possible quality and utility for current and foreseeable future professional demand.
Specifically, it aims to provide the appropriate high-level training to future professionals who will practice in the area of processing energy from energy sources and their generation to their various applications, providing the precise training to develop efficient and sustainable technologies and systems.
The training will be focused around the processes that take place from energy sources, through generation/capture and energy carriers/providers to the user of the final electrical or thermal energy service. That is, the processes and the equipment, and their organization, management and costs.
The following fields will be discussed in detail: solar and wind energy in their various forms, nuclear energy, cogeneration systems (electricity and heat) and other innovative systems, high efficiency and sustainability systems. As well as thermal power plants, nuclear engineering, fossil fuels, renewable energies and energy market management, all with an environmental and sustainable perspective.
In addition to the specific competences proposed above, the degree is also taught in accordance with the fundamental rights of equality between men and women, the principles of equal opportunities for all and universal accessibility for persons with disabilities and a culture of peace and democratic values.
The ETSI Minas y Energía campus meets the accessibility requirements for disabled people in all teaching areas and all its buildings, have straight corridors free of obstacles, elevators and ramps where needed, and wheelchair accessible toilets. (See paragraph 7.1.1 of this proposal).
Graduate profile: Professional opportunities for these graduates are those related to the different forms of generation, transformation and use of energy in its different types: electrical, mechanical, thermal, etc., both conventional and renewable, as well as production and use of fuels and explosives. His/her professional location will be in electric power generation plants, refineries and fuel logistics facilities, companies in the energy sector and explosives production, construction engineering, operation and maintenance of power plants, auditing and energy management, consulting firms and commercial companies related to the production, distribution and use of energy resources, fuels and explosives.
