At the ‘SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP, ETHICS, AND VALUES IN ENGINEERING UNIT (UESEVI) we plan to answer two questions:
What is the ultimate purpose of Education? Can students be trained to be competent, and at the same time supportive and aware of their environment?
The activity of this Unit is concentrated on concepts such as: responsibility, unity, collaboration, expansion, commitment, and the individual.
It consists in training upstanding students, who analyze and understand the consequences of their actions and choose to act for the common good. Considering that responsibility flows from freedom, a person who does not feel free, or in control of his circumstances, cannot exercise responsibility. In this way, people who go through our programs learn to be aware of their own freedoms, and of the responsibility that that brings with it, in whether to commit to a decision or not.
By setting up a space for dialogue and exchange, integrated into the traditional Education of the Engineer, students have the possibility to apply their knowledge, and take a side, in a way that helps them to be conscious of their own ethics. Once they are aware of the values and ethics that move them, and they also know the consequences of their actions or inaction, that is when they are in a position to decide what choices they want to make and really see it through.
