He was born on May 11th, 1886 in Madrid, where he completed a degree in Mine Engineering. At the end of his studies he was funded to travel and visit several foreign centers. Later he entered the ‘Geographical and Cadastral Institute’ and was Director of the ‘Geology and Mining Institute of Spain’. During this period he wrote the work "Geophysical Methods of Prospecting", which was awarded the Extraordinary Prize and Gold Medal by the ‘Royal Academy of Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences’, into which he was later admitted as a Numbered Member in 1935.
He also carried out a great deal of work at the ‘Higher Council for Scientific Research’, acting as First Vice-President and directing the ‘National Institute of Geophysics’, within the Board of Geophysics.
He was Chairman of the ‘International Geophysics Committee’, member of the Academies of Barcelona, Cordoba, Coimbra, ‘Institute of Mining and Mineralogy in New York’, ‘Deutsche Geologische Gesselschaft’ in Berlin, as well as a member of the ‘Pontifical Academy of Sciences’.
García-Siñeriz can therefore be considered as one of the greatest figures that the profession of Mine Engineering has had, having developed an extensive portfolio, mainly in the field of Geophysics, both in basic and applied research. He died in Madrid on the 28th of January 1974. After his death, it could be said that a stage in the evolution of Applied Geophysics in Spain came to an end.
